  • 4/23/05 Broken Valve Spring Causes Havoc For #00 In SUBWAY Fresh 500:Photo: Motorsport.com
PHOENIX, AZ -- Nightfall had yet to hit the Phoenix International Raceway Saturday evening before trouble would hit Carl Long and the #00 McGlynn Racing Chevrolet.

The race for Carl Long and McGlynn Racing would start out at a slow pace to allow Long to settle in and adjust to the track. Everything was running as planned, until shortly after the first caution of the race. The Buyer's Choice/KelleKars.com/Howes Lubricator Chevrolet began to slow down and lose it's handling. The car gradually lost contact with the end of the field.

A weak valve spring that the team had concerns about before the race would inevitably decide McGlynn Racing's fate for the evening.

The valve spring snapped off the valve shortly before lap 50, causing catastrophic damage to the engine and many of it's components. The weak spring is believed to be a product of the trouble the team faced at Bristol weeks ago when the engine began to overheat.

Carl Long wound up finishing a very disappointing 43rd position after completing just 53 laps in the SUBWAY Fresh 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Up Next: Tentative plans are for McGlynn Racing and Carl Long to head to Darlington Raceway in two weeks to run the Dodge Charger 500. The team will be skipping next weekend's race at Talladega Superspeedway.

  • 4/22/05 Long Flies Into Phoenix Field; Starts 41st:Photo: McGlynn Media
PHOENIX, AZ -- In the past, Carl Long has shown that he can adapt to an unfamiliar track in a heartbeat; Phoenix was no different. With a strong car and a solid team backing Long up, there would be no trouble getting the #00 Buyer's Choice/Howes Lubricator Chevrolet into the field of Saturday night's Subway Fresh 500. After a stellar lap put up by Long in qualifying earlier today, the #00 McGlynn Racing entry will start tomorrow night's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway in 41st position. Phoenix will mark Carl Long's 15th career start in NASCAR's premiere racing series.

  • 4/4/05 Overheated Engine Ends Day Early For Long & Company:Photo:McGlynn Racing
BRISTOL, TN -- The #00 Buyer's Choice / KelleeKars.com Chevrolet would not last long in Sunday afternoon's race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The team made a crucial error by leaving too much tape on the grill of the car for the start of the race. Carl Long, not yet aware of the issue, asked for only fuel on the first pit stop of the day as the car was handling beautifully. However, around lap 35, their mistaken began to show. The car started to puff out smoke as Long pace around under the 2nd caution of the day. The McGlynn team radioed Long to assess the problem. Carl Long concluded that the engine had begun to overheat. Long attempted to make a pit stop under green to let the crew take a look at the car, but Carl was black flagged for entering at the wrong entrance, and then black flagged again for speeding while attempting to serving his penalty. With the potential of already damaging the engine, the McGlynn crew felt it was best to call it a day to save the engine from blowing up, and not cause any additional trouble for the team or their fellow competitors. The McGlynn Chevrolet's day would end after completing just 37 laps. Long would finish 42nd

  • 4/1/05 Team McGlynn Gets It Done At Bristol, Qualifies 38th, Will Start 43rd:Photo:McGlynn Racing
BRISTOL, TN-- After a couple of tough back to back weekends at Las Vegas and Atlanta, Carl Long and the entire McGlynn Racing team wanted to prove to the sport that they do have what it takes to be competitive in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup. So far this week has certainly been a nice change of pace for the team, and really showcased what they're capable of.

Carl Long made the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway today... and that's no April Fools joke.

Perhaps it was McGlynn Racing's generosity of giving up sponsorship space on their #00 Chevrolet to help support a worthy cause, or maybe it was just the sleek new paint scheme that made the difference this weekend? What ever the reason may have been, Carl Long gave it all he had in qualifying as he always does, and put up a good enough lap time to secure him a spot in the field for Sunday's race.

The 15.426 second lap that Carl Long recorded on his 2nd lap of qualifying scored Long and McGlynn Racing a 38th place starting spot, picking up over 3 tenths of a second from practice, and besting numerous top teams in the process. The #00 Chevrolet was just 4 tenths off the pole-winning time set by #38-Elliott Sadler.

McGlynn Racing would like to send out a big thanks to all of their sponsors and supporters for making this weekend possible: Buyer's Choice Automotive Warranties, KelleeKars.com, Howe's Lubricator Products, Champion Builders Inc., CJA Remodeling, RacingMetal.com, Colours, and the team's newest partnership with the Polly Klaas Foundation.

Bristol marks the first race McGlynn Racing and Carl Long have made in 2005. The duo has one previous start together that occurred last season when Carl Long just barely squeaked into the field at Pocono, and finished 42nd after starting 38th due to an accident. This also happens to be Carl's first career Bristol NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start, after having made 6 attempts over the past 6 years.

McGlynn Racing looks forward to having a solid, but clean run on Sunday. On the minds of most teams on race day is usually one thing: Stay out of trouble. Accidents on the 36-degree banked half-mile are usually inevitable. It's necessary for the driver to race the racetrack and not your competitors until the end draws near. Carl Long and McGlynn Racing look to do just that come Sunday.

There are no additional on-track events for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams until Sunday, April 3rd, when the teams will hit the track for the running of the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. FOX television coverage begins at 12:30 pm Eastern Time.

NOTE: Carl Long will start the #00 Buyer's Choice/KelleeKars.com Chevrolet in the 43rd position on Sunday. This is due to NASCAR's new qualifying rules that allows the 43rd spot to go to either a past champion not already in the field, or the 8th fastest car not in the top 35 in owner points. As there was no past champion in need of a provisional, the #00 team got the nod to fall into the 43rd starting position for the race.

  • 3/23/05 McGlynn Racing Ready to Brush Off Rocky Start of Season:Photo: Carl Long and McGlynn Racing have had a rough time adjusting to the new rules that the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series has put on the teams for 2005. The first two race attempts were learning experiences for the team to adjust and better prepare themselves for the future. Progress had been made; unfortunately the team was unable to earn themselves a position in either of the races at Atlanta and Las Vegas. The team will get a much needed week off this week, before heading out to Bristol Motor Speedway where Carl Long will once again try to get the #00 McGlynn Racing Chevrolet into the race. Bristol is a track that Carl has logged a lot of laps on. Long scored a NASCAR All-Pro Series win at the track in 1997, and a top 10 start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1998.

  • 3/1/05 McGlynn, Long to Roll the Dice @ Vegas: Carl Long will be piloting the #00 Buyer's Choice/Howes/Champion Builders Chevrolet next weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the running of the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. In last year's event, Carl Long started the fan-supported #02 Pontiac in 41st position and finished 38th due to an oil pump issue that dropped him out of the race after completing 145 of 267 laps.

  • 2/17/05 Updated 2005 Plans: The McGlynn Racing team has elected to put their season debut on hold until the Las Vegas or Atlanta races in March. The decision was made to allow the team to better evaluate the competition in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series.

  • 12/15/04 Tentative 2005 Plans:Photo: Ralph Francello The 2004 season was quite a year for Carl Long. From the heart-stopping rollover wreck at Rockingham in February, to the impressive qualifying efforts at Loudon, and who could forget Pocono in July when Carl Long went out last to qualify, and put his Dodge into the field--the last spot on speed. There were many great times; unfortunately the bad times outweighed the good in the end. So here Carl Long sits, ready to start the 2005 season. Long, still without a full-time ride for 2005, will keep on doing what he loves to do best...race--any way he can.

Carl Long's tentative 2005 season plans are as followed: Long once again will team up with Raynard McGlynn and McGlynn Racing to run an undefined number of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races in 2005. This year the duo will focus further on combining resources to strengthen both parties involved. Carl Long will be the primary driver for the mega-team, running the majority of the races. While Ryan McGlynn, son of team owner Raynard McGlynn, will run selected short track races on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup circuit. A two-car team for some events is possible. The team will utilize Chevrolet Monte Carlos and Dodge Chargers under the numbers 00 and 46. Both McGlynn Racing and Carl Long Racing are in search for primary sponsorship. There are no plans to run the season opening race at Daytona. The team hopes to head out to California Speedway on February 27th to mark the Auto Club 500 as their season-opening race.
