Long started the #41 Koma Unwind Ford Mustang for Rick Ware Racing in the 37th position in Saturday's Sam's Town 300. In the early laps of the 300 miler, Long had the Koma Unwind Mustang inside the top 30 and steadily picking off cars one by one. During green flag pit stops, Long was as high as 9th before a series of events caused him to pit several times which would be the beginning of the end. After the first pit stop Long would develop a vibration causing him to pit to ensure there was not a loose lug nut. After that did not fix the problem, the Rick Ware Racing crew changed tires once again. The vibration was better, but still there. After a trip to the garage, the vibration was diagnosed as a wheel bearing issue ending his day in the 32nd position.

10/28/10 - Long and Fleur-de-lis Motorsports Have Up and Down Weekend in Charlotte: Carl Long and the #68 Millennium Fuel Energy Drink Chevrolet had
TheHotLap.com
an up and down weekend in Charlotte for the Dollar General 300. During the practices, Long was as high as 24th in one of the many practices, plenty fast to make the 43 car field. Long was the 40th competitor to make a qualifying run. As Long entered turn three on his first of two qualifying laps, the rear of the Millennium Fuel Energy Drink Chevrolet got loose and resulted in a spin. Fortunately, Long did not make contact with the fourth turn wall and he was able to drive back around the 1.5-mile track to start his second qualifying lap. With flat-spotted tires, Long attempted to run a competitive lap, but spun as he exited turn two. Contact with both the outside and inside retaining walls ended all hopes of qualifying for the Dollar General 300.

10/14/10 - Long and Fleur-de-lis Motorsports Head to Charlotte: Carl Long and the Fleur-de-lis Motorsports team will unload their #68 Millennium Fuel Chevrolet for the fourth and final Nationwide Series "new" car event of the season.

"Racing at Charlotte holds special meaning for everyone," Long said. "If your shop is located in the Charlotte-Mooresville area, Charlotte is your 'home track' and you want to have a strong performance in front of your family and friends. If your shop is not in this area, you love to come to Charlotte and beat 'the home team'. Regardless, the motorsports world is focused on Charlotte Motor Speedway this week."

The Dollar General 300 will be the final event for the "new" Nationwide Series cars in 2010. Previous "new" car races were held at Daytona, Michigan, and Richmond. The NASCAR Nationwide Series will compete with the "new" car fulltime in 2011.

Carl Long and the #68 Fleur-de-lis Motorsports team raced at Michigan (31st) in August and Richmond (39th) in September, and look to close out their 2010 season with a competitive race at CMS.

"We have learned something about our Chevrolet every time we've raced," Long added. "Morris (Crew Chief Van Vleet) has really been working hard preparing our car for this week. I'm really glad to have the open test day on Wednesday (Oct. 13th) to shake down our Chevrolet so that we can put our best foot forward on Friday.

No race team would be successful without the support of their marketing partners. Fleu-de-lis Motorsports is no different. Millennium Fuel Energy Drink debuted with the team at Richmond and continues their support this week. Fleur-de-lis Construction, Fleur-de-lis Farms, Marro's Truck & Welding, A+ Plumbing and Heating, and the Garlic Garage have supported the #68 team at each race, and welcome the Iredell County Animal Services & Control Department and Wholesale Direct (car dealer) for the Dollar General 300.

"I'm really excited about racing at Charlotte this week," Long concluded. "We'll be ready to perform when the "Friday Night Lights' are on."

9/11/10 - Bad Breaks for Long and Fleur-De-Lis at Richmond: Carl Long was excited about competing at the Virginia 529 College Savings
250 last Friday night at Richmond International Raceway. Carl had worked closely with Morris VanVleet, Crew Chief on the #68 Chevrolet, to get the car setup for the challenging track at Richmond.
The track is known to be hard on front brakes but the problem they encountered just after the first practice, was not brake related at all. A failed throw-out bearing required the team to pull the transmission to replace the part. This cost valuable track time during the second practice.

Fans and Long had a tense moment during qualifying when, on the first lap, the car pushed up the track and was headed for the wall. Long recovered nicely and turned a second lap that got the car in the race.

As the race progressed, the handling started to improve and Long was moving forward in the field. But, the higher speeds caused more abuse on the front brakes. Eventually, the front brake rotors warped causing a severe vibration in the car making it impossible to drive at competitive speeds. Eventually, the vibration loosened a bolt in the upper control arm which required repair behind the wall.

Since points were insignificant to the team, some may have elected to give up at that juncture. but the "never say quit" attitude of Craig Partee, owner of Fleur-De-Lis Motorsports, motivated the team to get the car repaired and back on track.

Long finished the race in 39th place and stated that even several laps down, the pit crew gave him the fastest pit stop he has had all year.

A special thanks goes out to Chuck and Joan Fridell who showed up at Richmond and helped us race. Not only did they contribute financially, but they backed it up physically by helping with the car. A few years ago, Long drove the #54 that was owned by the Fridell's.

practice, Carl Long qualified the #00 KOMA Unwind Chillaxation Drink Chevrolet in the 28th position for the O'Reilly Auto Parts 200. Long avoid the early action, which saw 5 cautions during the first 50 laps. The #00 KOMA Unwind Chillaxation Drink Chevrolet was as high as 5th and ran inside the top 10 for several laps. It was then time to pit and that is where the night went south. During the pitstop, the three stroke jack broke on stroke two, which left the truck stuck in the air. The team scrambled to get another jack, but by that time, Long had lost a lap. Long would lose another two laps during the green while stuck behing slower trucks. In the end, Long brought the KOMA Unwind Chillaxation Drink Chevrolet home in 20th, 3 laps down. Special thanks goes out to Germain Racing for their helping during the race.

lap to place the #68 Fleur-De-Lis Construction Chevrolet Impala in the field, Long and team went into the race looking to learn. Throughout the weekend, Long and the Fleur-De-Lis Motorsports team battled an ill handling car and that continued in the race. On top of handling problems, the team had to deal with a slim pit crew after their original pit crew did not show up. Due to the length of changing tires, Long and crew chief Morris Van Vleet elected to take fuel only on one pit stop. Long battled to a 31st place finish, 6 laps down. The communication between driver and crew chief continues to improve and the team looks forward to their next race, the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 from Richmond International Raceway on September 10th. Up next for Long will be the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series O'Reilly Auto Parts 200 on Wednesday night from the Bristol Motor Speedway. Long will drive the #00 Daisy Ramirez Motorsports Chevrolet.

7/16/10 - Long Still Trucking with DRM: Daisy Ramirez Motorsports will
once again have NASCAR Veteran Carl Long behind the wheel of the "FREE SAMPLES" KOMA Unwind Relaxation Drink Chevy at Gateway. Carl now entered in his fifth event with DRM this season has had finishes of 27th, 11th & 20th last week moving the team up one position in owners points. "We are very excited to have Carl working with us, not only does he wheel the race truck but he works at the shop and drives the transporter! said Daisy Ramirez. "As our sponsors brand KOMA Unwind Relaxation Drink expands distribution and sales we have big plans for Carl." added Daisy.

6/5/10 - Disappointment at Daytona: Carl Long and the Fleur-de-lis
Motorsports team headed to Daytona with high hopes only to have them crushed as soon as the #68 Chevrolet got on track. After a tremendous effort to build this car from scratch, it was discovered that the Cross Member was coming into contact with the rough Daytona pavement scrubbing off speed in each corner. The suspension was adjusted so as to allow additional clearance for the Cross Member but the added height hurt the aerodynamics of the car which slowed it's speed even more.

The Cross Member is a major component of the car's structure and cannot be easily re-located, "it is definitely not something you would do at the track" says Craig Partee, team owner. "Our plan to run four races this year is to get all the bugs worked out before we run a full season next year."

Carl and FDL Motorsports next attempt will be at Michigan International Speedway on August 14th for the Carfax 250.

5/15/10 - Long Earns Career Best NASCAR Finish in Dover: Carl Long
went into the weekend at Dover International Speedway with one thing in mind, finish ahead of the trucks the #01 Daisy Ramirez Motorsports team was racing for the all important locked-in position. With only 36 trucks entered, qualifying wasn't a worry for Long and the team. But, Long would qualify the #01 Koma Unwind Chillaxation Drink Chevrolet in the 25th position. Long spent most of the Dover 200 right outside the top 20, beating several trucks and staying out of trouble.

Attrition started to take toll early and often with accidents and mechanical problems knocking several trucks out of competition. Long would steer clear of trouble and with about 50 laps to go, Long would recieve his second and final lucky dog award, placing him and his #01 Koma Unwind Chillaxation Drink Chevrolet back on the lead lap. In the end, Long would drive his way into the top 15 and by the drop of the checkered flag, Long would cross the finish line in 11th. It was Long's career best NASCAR finish, beating his previous best of 17th in the Camping World Truck Series at Texas in 2000. Nearly a year after the record breaking fine handed down by NASCAR and a lot of uncertainty, Carl Long is back. And back big.
